Happy birthday, BhamWiki

bhmwikilogoBhamWiki, part of the Project to Document the Birmingham District, celebrates its third anniversary this weekend. According to a survey, this is the fourth largest “city wiki” in the United States, and one of the ten largest in the world.

John Morse (who writes under the user name Dystopos) founded the project and acts as our local Jimbo. Now there are more than 5,100 articles authored and edited by more than 200 contributors.

I joined the wiki in October 2006 after “Dystopos” recruited me along with other folks who’d worked on the Wikipedia article about Birmingham. I’ve only played a small role in the BhamWiki project (as User:Alarob), but it’s been a good experience, and something I plan to stay involved with.
